Hello,

I live in Australia and have been collecting historical detail on the Cheales family for a number of years. I have a family tree which I believe is reasonably complete back to the 1500’s and of course am aware of a role for over 300 years my forebears played in Hagworthingham with the Church and “Old Hag” Manor which retains the family crest at the front. My Grandfather Eric Bellingham Cheales brought my family to Australia and round the same time his brothers went to South Africa and Canada. In South Africa one family continues the family name and in Canada there are no male Cheales’s. In the UK there are 3 families carrying the name and in Australia two.

My research of the Cheales families has been a passive ongoing quest over many years and focused over the immediate past 3 years on writing the story of the lineage getting us to Australia in 1913. If you have an interest you can download the book on this through Amazon. This covers the arrival of the Cheales’s in Australia, included are chapters on Eric’s father William, his father John, and his father Benjamin. If you have any additional information on any of the family particularly photos I would be most interested. I am also happy to share any of the detail I have from genuine enquirers.

One question I would like to reveal is where or how I can get a list of the owners and dates of Old Hag back as far as it was built! I continue to take an active interest in the village Cheales now the Cheales Dale Charity looked after by the village.
